ROTIMI : A RHYTHMIC SOUL
Rotimi, whose full name is Olurotimi Akinosho, is a Nigerian-American singer, songwriter, and actor. Rotimi gained recognition in the entertainment industry through his music career and has since expanded his presence as an actor.
Rotimi’s passion for music developed at a young age. He began singing in the church choir and honed his skills as a vocalist and songwriter. In 2011, he released his debut mixtape called “The Resume”, which showcased his vocal abilities and R&B sound.
In 2015, Rotimi gained widespread attention with the release of his hit single “Lotto”, which garnered significant radio airplay and established him as a rising star in the music scene and he was under the label of American rapper and executive producer of power, 50 Cent and the label was called G-Unit Records. He followed up with other successful tracks like “Doin It”, a single from his 5-track project, Summer Bangerz. In 2017, he released his debut EP called Jeep Music Vol. 1. Which further solidified his reputation as a talented R&B artist. He also released other sounds like; “Love Riddim”, “In My Bed”, “Want More”, “Love Somebody”, “Hey Boy” and many others.
Alongside his music career, Rotimi has also made a name for himself as an actor. He is best known for his role as Andre Coleman in the hit television series “Power” produced by Starz. His portrayal of the complex and ambitious character earned him critical praise and a dedicated fan base.
In addition to “Power” Rotimi has appeared in other television shows and films, including “Boss”, “Battle Creek”, “Will Trent” and many others. He has also showcased his acting skills on stage in theatre productions like “Rent” and “Black Nativity”. He also has featured in several movies like; “Divergent”, “Darkest Before Dawn”, “Imperial Dreams”, “Singlehollic”, “Coming 2 America”, “House Party” amongst others.
Rotimi’s talent and versatility as both a musician and actor have earned him recognition and accolades. He has been nominated for and won several awards, including the Best New Artist at the Nigerian Entertainment Awards, the Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series at the NAACP Image Awards and many others.
Rotimi was born on November 30, 1988, in Maplewood, New Jersey, United States, to a Nigerian family of Yoruba heritage. He attended Columbia High School, where he was both in the choir and the varsity basket ball team. He continued his studies at North western University and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Communication with a minor in Business in 2010.
With his smooth vocals, captivating performances, and charisma, Rotimi continues to make waves in both the music and acting industries. He remains an influential figure, and his fans eagerly anticipate his future projects and releases.
