D’BANJ : THE AFROBEAT “KOKOMASTER”
D’banj, whose real name is Oladapo Daniel Oyebanjo, is a Nigerian singer, rapper, songwriter, TV personality, producer and entrepreneur. He rose to prominence in the mid-2000s and has since become one of Africa’s most successful and influential musicians.
D’banj began his music career as a backup vocalist for other Nigerian artists before venturing into his solo career. In 2005, he released his debut album titled “No Long Thing”, which featured hit singles like “Tongolo”, “Socor”, and “Mobolowowon”. These songs helped establish D’banj as a force to be reckoned with in the Nigerian music industry.
However, it was his 2012 single “Oliver Twist” that catapulted D’banj to international fame. The song became a massive hit, not only in Nigeria but also across Africa and in the United Kingdom. It topped charts and gained significant airplay worldwide, making D’banj one of Africa’s most recognizable artists.

In addition to his successful music career, D’banj is also an entrepreneur. He co-founded Mo’ Hits Records with his long time friend and producer, Don Jazzy. The record label became one of the most influential in Nigeria and helped launch the careers of several notable artists.
Over the years, D’banj has collaborated with numerous international artists, including Kanye West, Snoop Dogg, Big Sean and many renowned others. He has received several awards and nominations for his contributions to the music industry, including the MTV Europe Music Award for Best African Act, BET Awards, World Music Awards, MTV Africa Music Awards and much more.
Outside of music, D’banj has been involved in philanthropic endeavours. He has supported various charitable causes, including his own initiative called the Koko Foundation for Youth and Peace Development, which focuses on empowering young people.
While D’banj’s career has seen many highs, he has also faced personal and professional challenges. In 2018, he suffered a tragic loss when his son passed away. However, he has continued to persevere and remains an influential figure in African music.
The great musician was born on June 9, 1980, in Zaria, Nigeria. Due to his father’s profession, he moved several ties within Nigeria and later moved to England. He was expected to follow his father’s military career and was enrolled to the Nigerian Military School at the age of eleven. However, he resisted and after three years, he disenrolled from the school.
