Whoopi Goldberg, born Caryn Elaine Johnson on November 13th, 1955, is an American actress, comedian, author, and television personality. She is best known for her versatile acting skills, comedic timing, and strong presence both on stage and on screen. Goldberg has achieved great success throughout her career and has become an influential figure in the entertainment industry.

Goldberg was born and raised in New York City. She grew up in a working-class family and faced various challenges during her early years. However, she found solace in performing and developed a passion for acting at a young age.

In the early 1970s, Goldberg began her career as a stand-up comedian, gaining recognition for her unique style and humor. In 1983, she began a one-woman show titled “Soook show” and was later on transferred to Broadway under a new title “Whoopi Goldberg” where she got her present name. She performed in various comedy clubs and theaters, and her talent caught the attention of director Mike Nichols, who cast her in the Broadway production of “The Color Purple” in 1985.

Goldberg’s breakthrough in the film industry came in 1985 when she starred in Steven Spielberg’s drama film “The Color Purple”, based on the novel by Alice Walker. Her portrayal of Celie, a mistreated African-American woman in the early 20th century, earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress,Tony Award nomination,also earned her a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Motion Picture-Drama. This marked the beginning of a successful acting career for Goldberg.

Over the years, Goldberg has appeared in numerous films, showcasing her versatility as an actress. Some of her notable film credits include “Ghost”(1990), for which she won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress, “Sister Act” (1992) and its sequel, “The Lion King” (1994), “How Stella Got Her Groove Back” (1998), “Girl, Interrupted” (1999), “Till” (2022) and many others. She has also lent her voice to animated films such as « Toy Story 3 » (2010), “The Page Master, Boys on the Side”, “The Little Mermaid Live!” (2019), “Muppets Tonight” and much more. She presently is working on the third sequel to her movie “Sister Act 3” and the fans highly anticipate it.

In addition to her work in film, Goldberg has made a name for herself on television. She has hosted her own talk show, “The Whoopi Goldberg Show”, and has served as a co-host on the daytime talk show “The View since 2007. Goldberg’s bold and unfiltered opinions have made her a prominent figure in the world of television and have garnered her both praise and criticism.

Goldberg was born in Manhattan , Newyork and attended Washington Irving High School for the Performing Arts and later enrolled at the HB Studio in New York City to study acting.

Apart from her acting career, Goldberg is an activist and has been vocal about various social and political issues. She has been an advocate for LGBT rights, women’s rights, and racial equality.She also co-founded “Whoopi & Maya”, a company that made medical cannabis products for women seeking relief from menstrual cramps. Goldberg has also written several books, including the children’s book series « Sugar Plum Ballerinas » and the memoir « Book. »
