Temitope Balogun Joshua, commonly known as TB Joshua, was a Nigerian preacher and televangelist. He was born on June 12, 1963, in Arigidi-Akoko, a rural area in Ondo State, Nigeria. He was the founder and leader of The Synagogue, Church of All Nations (SCOAN), a popular megachurch in Lagos, Nigeria.

He claimed to have received a divine call in a vision from God at the age of 15, which marked the beginning of his spiritual journey. He subsequently attended St. Stephen’s Anglican Primary School and later went on to study at Muslim College, but he didn’t complete his secondary education.

In 1987, at the age of 23, Joshua established The Synagogue, Church of All Nations. The church began as a small gathering in a makeshift structure but quickly grew in popularity due to his reputed healing and prophetic abilities. His ministry also focused on charitable activities, including providing scholarships for students, supporting the less privileged, and responding to humanitarian crises.

Throughout his life, TB Joshua faced both praise and criticism. Supporters considered him a true servant of God and believed in his healing and prophetic abilities. However, critics accused him of performing staged miracles and using manipulative tactics to exploit vulnerable individuals seeking help. The controversies surrounding his ministry, particularly in relation to the tragic collapse of a guesthouse on the SCOAN premises in 2014, which resulted in the death of several people, added to the debates surrounding his work. According to records,  almost a hundred people died from that incident and around 131 people were rescued alive.
