TONY UMEZ: NOLLYWOOD’S WOMAN MATERIAL AND CULTIC ACTOR

Tony Umez is a prominent Nollywood Veteran actor, Producer, Director, Philanthropist and a television personality known for his versatility and captivating performances. Born on August 23, 1964, in Ogidi, Anambra State, in South eastern Nigeria. He grew up in Lagos where he obtained his primary and secondary education. He also has a Bachelor’s degree and Master’s degree in English and International Law and diplomacy respectively from the University of Lagos.

Umez began his acting career in his secondary school days when he performed in stage plays and dramas.  In 1993, he joined Nollywood and has since become a household name in the Nigerian film industry. Umez’s journey to stardom wasn’t an easy one. Despite facing numerous challenges and setbacks, he remained determined to pursue his passion for acting. His breakthrough came when he landed a role in the hit movie “Died Wretched” in 1995, which garnered critical acclaim and established him as a talented actor.

Known for his ability to portray diverse characters, Umez has appeared in a wide range of films across various genres, including romantic comedies, dramas, and action thrillers. His exceptional acting skills have earned him several awards and nominations, solidifying his position as one of Nollywood’s most respected actors. He has acted in more than 250 Nollywood movies which include: “Died Wretched”, “Billionaire’s Club”, “Blood Sisters”, “Occultic Kingdom” and many others.

In 2014, he was strongly criticized by his friends and fans for accepting a role in a light pornographic movie “Room 027”. With this, he later regretted and apologised to his fans for accepting such a role which did not look like him.
