MAGASCO : THE BAMENDA BOY

Tohnain Anthony Nguo popularly known as “Magasco” is a Cameroonian Afro-pop/afrobeat artist who hails from the Northwest Region in Cameroon. His first public appearance was at a talent show called Positive Vibrations back in 1999.

He created a group of rappers in 2000 called “T-Drops” with his long time besties DaBlu and Klone. Unfortunately, after 9 years of existence, the group separated due to one of the members leaving the country. The others had to get a different path.

Magasco joined another group called “Trio” with two ladies Natty Blink and Joyce in order to represent the North West Region at the NESCAFE singing contest. They emerged first runners up after they competed at the regional and national levels.

At the beginning of Magasco’s career, he worked with label “Mumak” where after he released his debut single “Line Loba” (land rover), and this got him serious exposure and he later on signed under a biggest Cameroonian Urban label Empire Company of Pit Baccardi.

He has released several singles like; “Fine Boy”, “Marry Me”, Wule Bang Bang”, “Bolo”, “Belinda”, “Kumba Market”, “No Man no Wowo”, “All VIP” and many others with wonderful beats. He has also released albums such as; “Golden Boy” amongst others. He has released Eps as well like; “Raw Gold” and has collaborated with several other Cameroonian artists like; Shan’l, Pit Baccardi, Gasha and many others.

Magasco has been greatly influenced by great musical talents such as Manu Dibango, John Legend and Drake. His genre of music is an infectious ingenious fusion of hip hop and local rhythms such as Njang, Soul, High Life and Makossa with world class productions from two of Cameroon’s finest producers Le Monstre and Dijay Pazzo.

He has won several awards like; Best North West Urban Artist on the Red Feather Awards, Revolutionary Artist at the Bafani Awards in Bamenda, Best EP/Mixtape Urban Jamz Awards and many others.

Magasco was born on September 22^nd 1988 in the Northwest region of Cameroon. He fell in love with music while in Secondary school in Bamenda and he joined the church choir during those days. After obtaining his GCE A/Level certificate, he joined the University of Yaoundé I where he studied history.

The artist apparently owns his own record label called “BBoy records” where he has young talents he has been nurturing. His unique singing style and dance steps are elements that render the artist very solicited and followed.

Magasco presently is one of the most recognised artists in Cameroon and has kept his name very high and has been representing his origins with a good vibe and reputation. He keeps being an inspiration to young aspiring artists.
