DOUALA : TEACHER MERCILESSLY FLOGS STUDENT TO DEATH
Another recent just took place in Douala,Cameroon, the economic capital of the country. In this case, a female secondary school student from the college of Hopes, Arts and Science (COHAS) located in a quarter named Bepanda, was flogged to death by her teacher on January 17th 2024.
According to sources, while under corporal punishment from her teacher, the student whose name was revealed as Vera Mbong, collapsed and was immediately rushed to the hospital only after her classmates rioted. Several hours after she was rushed to the Deido District hospital, she was declared dead by the doctors. After the declaration, the teacher was arrested immediately.
Clear explanations have not been given on the reason why the teacher mercilessly beat that student which resulted to her death. After several investigations, students revealed that the so called teacher is fond of beating students inhumanly.
Apparently, the school has not yet made any declarations.
This situation, happens a year after the Minister of Secondary Education, Professor Nalova Lyonga, banned corporal punishment in schools throughout the nation.
Measures needs to be taken on such cases as students in many other schools undergo this but have no voice to lay a complain that can get the teacher handled accordingly.
