Trace, is an Afro-pop music channel dedicated to broadcasting Africa’s top music, has partnered with Visit Rwanda, the country’s marketing and tourism initiative, to bring the first edition of the Trace Awards & Festival to Kigali this year. The Trace Awards and Festival are organised by Trace and Visit Rwanda.

The event is set for October 20–21, 2023, at the Kigali Arena which is also in line with the 20th anniversary of Trace, the global music powerhouse and Afro-music tastemaker, which has played a big role in boosting Africa’s music industry. The Trace Awards & Festival will celebrate the best of African music across 22 categories, including Artist of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Male Artist, Best Female Artist, and Best New Artist. Other categories include Best Collaboration, Best Music Video, and Best African Dancehall Artist. The awards will celebrate genres such as Afrobeat, dancehall, hip hop, mbalax, amapiano, zouk, kizomba, genge, coupé décalé, bongo flava, soukous, gospel, rap, rai, kompa, R&B, and rumba.

It turns out amongst the nominees; Cameroonian artists were not left out. These artists are known as “Krys M” (Best New Comer), “Libianca” (Song of the Year), “Ko-C” (Best Artist Africa-Francophone), “Locko” (Best Artist Africa-Francophone) and also “Tay-c” (Best Artist France and Belgium) who happens to be a French national but born to Cameroonian parents. These artists have well represented their country’s flag way up.

Some other top nominees for this festival were announced on August 22nd who happens to be Nigerian artists like “Burna Boy”, “Tiwa Savage”, “Wizkid”, “Ayrra Star” and “Davido”.

This Trace Awards is a big event in the world and most especially for the African music industry for it aids to promote and celebrate the continent’s rich musical heritage and portray the various talents of African Artists to the world at large. During this festival, a about 190 nations will be able to watch the live broadcast of the award ceremony and it will as well honour those who have contributed enormously to the growth of Afro-inspired and African music and culture. Competing during this ceremony in 22 categories are more than 30 African countries with platinum-selling artists and from many more countries round the world.

This ceremony is going to be a blast and the tension in the various artists and their fans is what makes it more entertaining and interesting. October is seriously waited for it’s going to be dimensional.
