AFCON 2023 : IVORY COAST ELEPHANTS CLOSE THE MATCH WITH A LEGENDARY VICTORY

The Elephants have won the third AFCON in their history after 1992 and 2015.

What an achievement by the Ivorians! The Elephants win « their » AFCON for the third time after 1992 and 2015, after having been miraculously knocked out several times during the competition. Just like in this final, Ivory Coast never gave up.

In a match that was a complete upset, Ivory Coast came from behind to beat Nigeria. Ivory Coast beat Nigeria 2-1 in the final of the Africa Cup of Nations. With a goal from PAOK defender William Troost-Ekong (38th) on one side, and goals from Al Ahli midfielder Franck Kessié (62nd) and Dortmund striker Sébastien Haller (81st) on the other. The team coached by Emerse Faé, who dominated throughout the final, managed to overturn the Super Eagles, who had opened the scoring from a corner. The final hammer blow went to national hero Sébastien Haller.

After 1992 in Senegal and 2015 in Equatorial Guinea, Ivory Coast has now won the third African Cup of Nations in its own land making a remarkable history.
