NKANYA NKWAI: CAMEROON’S FIRST DISTINGUISHED BEST ACTOR AT ECRANS NOIRS
Nkanya Nkwai is a talented Cameroonian actor, Director and Producer, born on July 3rd 1982, and who has made a significant impact in the entertainment industry. With his exceptional acting skills and dedication to his craft, Nkwai has become a prominent figure in the Cameroonian film scene. Born and raised in Cameroon, Nkwai developed a passion for acting at a young age. He went to Presbyterian Primary School (PS) Dumbo-Berabe and Government High School Ako, where he completed his High school at Government Bilingual High School in Nkambe with a G.C.E Advanced Level Certificate. He later on enrolled at the University of Yaoundé I, a crash programme in South Africa. He moved to LCC International University in Lithuania. During his time at the university, Nkwai honed his skills and gained valuable experience by participating in various stage plays and productions.
He made his film debut in 2008, in the film “Becky Diana”. He left Cameroon to pursue his studies abroad. In 2010, he played a role in “The Crucible” by LCC International University in Lithuania. After returning to Cameroon, he played in several films, including “Viri”, “The African Guest”, “Nightfall”, “Life Point” and others. He was recognised in 2014, by Ecrans Noirs in the film “Viri” as Best actor, making him the first Cameroonian Anglophone to earn such an award. He is the producer of the movie “Nightfall” with Nollywood actor Clem Ohameze and Cameroonian star Epule Jeffrey.
Nkwai’s dedication to his craft and his ability to bring characters to life on screen have made him a sought-after actor in Cameroon and beyond. He continues to challenge himself by taking on diverse roles and exploring different genres. Nkwai’s talent and passion for acting have undoubtedly made him a force to be reckoned with in the Cameroonian film industry, and he is poised to make an even greater impact in the years to come.
