A stampede recently occurred on Monday 22nd  January at the Lycée bilingue d’Etoug-Ebé in Yaoundé after the raising of the flag ceremony. Just as the latecomers were gradually entering through the gate, others jostled to get through the large gate.

According to the Divisinal Officer of Mfoundi, who rushed to the scene, 21 pupils were injured and transferred to the hospital for treatment. During the stampede, the Principal’s vehicle was vandalized and overturned. For the moment, the ins and outs of this scene are not yet known.

In an interview with the the Divisional Officer of Mfoundi, he assures the audience that there is no death situation and he also made mention of the fact that several questions are pending as to why the sudden violence from the students. Could it be as a result of the DISCOM meeting that took place in school last week Thursday 18th January 2024 and the students did not want sanctioning of the victims? With time more will be revealed and the situation will be clearer as to why the sudden act.

According to the viral videos roaming social media, the students are filled with rage and most of the student’s parents are coming to get their children to a safe place . The school for a short while turned into a serious war zone between students and the officers of the law that were called to put the students in order. They were really stubborn and did not want to hear anything being said to them.

Calm has gradually returned to the Lycée following an appeal by Divisional Officer  Emmanuel Djikdent to the many parents who came to the school to check on their children.
