LEGENDARY MARTIN NDONGO HAS JOINED HIS ANCESTORS
It is with great sadness to learn of the death of Martin Ndongo Ebanga, which occurred recently at the CNPS hospital in Yaoundé, following a long illness. Aged 57, he leaves behind an immense sporting legacy and a nation in mourning.
Born on 23rd March 1966 in Yaoundé, Martin Ndongo Ebanga made his mark in the world of boxing from an early age. His amateur career was crowned with success, including a bronze medal in the lightweight category at the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. He also won several continental and national titles, becoming a true legend of Cameroonian boxing.
Turning professional in 1988, Ndongo Ebanga enjoyed an honorable career, competing for the WBC super lightweight world title in 1992. Although he never won a world championship belt, his courage and determination in the ring left a lasting impression.
After retiring from the sport, Ndongo Ebanga became a trainer, passing on his passion and know-how to younger generations of Cameroonian boxers. He also held positions within the Cameroon Boxing Federation, contributing to the development of the sport in his country.
The death of Martin Ndongo Ebanga is a great loss for Cameroon and the world of boxing. His memory will remain engraved in the hearts of all those who knew and admired him. May his soul rest in peace.
