ELVIS NSANBILA GETS 2ND VICTORY AT THE RACE OF HOPE
Cameroonian athlete Elvis Nsanbila, is the winner of the Race of Hope in the 29th edition of the Mount Cameroon Climb, that’s took place on Saturday 24th February 2024. He made his entrance at the Molyko stadium in Buea, Southwest region after 4 hours 47 minutes of racing. Elvis Nsanbila crossed the finish line in the closing stages, ahead of Ahmadou Abdou.
He thus succeeds Adamu Issa Buba, winner of the 28th edition of the Race of Hope with a time of 4 hours 40 minutes and 01 second. This is the second time that Elvis Nsanbila, from the North-West region of Cameroon, has won this prestigious race. In 2022, he was already crowned champion. He has now won a handsome cash prize of ten million CFA francs.

In the women’s category, Tatah Carine Wiysenyuy from the North West region emerged victorious, solidifying her dominance with a commanding performance. She was followed by Yvonne Ngwaya and Lisette Ngalim, both representing the South West region. Wiysenyuy’s triumph marks her fifth win in the event, underscoring her exceptional prowess and consistency in the competition.
Approximately 600 athletes from across four continents participated in the race, converging at the starting point in Molyko Stadium and culminating at the iconic Bongo Square. The race, involving the ascent of Mount Cameroon, the highest peak in West Africa standing at 4,095 meters, tested the limits of human endurance and athleticism.
Initiated in 1973 by the Guinness Cameroon Company, the Mount Cameroon Race of Hope aims to promote sports, tourism, and peace in the country. Supported by the Ministry of Sports and Physical Education, the Cameroon Athletics Federation, and various private partners, the event continues to serve as a testament to the indomitable spirit of Cameroonian athletes amidst challenging circumstances.
