CHRISTOPHER WOOH AND RENNES CRASH OUT OF FRENCH CUP FINALS
PSG advance to the French Cup finals after a convincing performance against Rennes. Without Christopher Wooh on the bench, Stade Rennais lost 1-0 to Paris Saint Germain in the French Cup semi-finals. They were lucky that they managed to keep PSG from scoring more than one goal. Mbappe was the shining star of the game, with most of PSG’s attacks coming through him. In the first half he missed a great chance to put his side ahead, but later won a penalty for himself in the 37th minute. Mandanda saved the penalty, but that didn’t stop Mbappe from coming again. He opened the scoring just four minutes later with a deflected effort, which proved to be the only goal of the game. The second half consisted of Rennes timidly attempting to get back into the game, which proved to be unsuccessful at the final whistle. PSG ended the game with an xG rating of 1.77, topping Rennes’ rating of 0.75, which largely tells the story of the game. PSG will face Lyon in the final on May 25th 2024.
The Bretons suffered and showed themselves too timid to hope for anything on Wednesday April 03rd 2024.
Even at their best last season, Rennes struggled away from home and the same thing is happening this season. The Red and Blacks failed to win four of their last five games on the road, two defeats and two draws. Given that they also boast just one clean sheet from their last nine games, anything other than a home win will be a surprise.
The future of the Red and Blacks (Rennes) is yet to be determined especially with this loss. Hope is that they rise up back with Christopher Wooh.
