“THE PLANTER’S PLANTATION”: CAMEROON’S INTERNATIONAL OFFICIAL MOVIE AMBASSADOR AT THE 95TH EDITION OF OSCARS
“The Planter’s Plantation” is an award-winning 2022 Cameroonian musical drama film written, produced and directed by Eystein Young Dingha. This movie is an allegory to neocolonization, the film is Cameroon’s entry for Best International Feature Film at the 2023 Academy Awards. It won two special prizes at the 2023 FESPACO namely The Ousmane Sembene Special Prize and the Plan International Price for a film on the rights of Women and the girl child. Movie director, Eystein Young Dingha has directed many other movies but this movie is a mind blowing film that has gotten the attention of many and rewarded immensely.
The movie narrates a west African Plantation in the 60s, A young determined girl must battle family and society to preserve her late father’s legacy; A colonial plantation; amid Disagreements, betrayal and secrets. A dramatic musical, an allegory of Neo colonization.
The Film has been highly applauded for its selection and outstanding performances in festival such as « The African International Film Festival », « FESPACO », « Ecran Noirs Film festival », « Uganda Film Festival », « Luanda Film Festival », « Khouribga International Film Festival », « Yarha Film Festival », « Al Ain Film Festival », « Montpellier Film Festival », « Cameroon International film festival » where it won prices varying from Best Film, Ecran D’Or(first Cameroonian movie to win in 26 years), Best Actress.
During the 2023 FESPACO edition, it won the various prices “The Ousmane Sembene Special Prize” and “The Plan International Price for a film on the rights of Women and the girl child”. It entered Cameroon historical records, for being the first Cameroonian film to be nominated for an « AMVCA » for its best Actress Nimo Loveline. « The Planter’s Plantation » is Cameroon’s official selection in the Best International Film of the 95th edition of Oscars.
