NETFLIX ANNOUNCES RENEWAL OF 3 SOUTHAFRICAN SERIES, 2 NEW SOUTH AFRICAN SERIES, AND 2 FEATURE FILMS

BLOOD AND WATER (SEASON 4)
Early next year, which is 2024, three South African series will have their renewals on screen which was recently signed off to Netflix. These renewals, are considered as part of the streaming platform’s (Netflix) recent investment into the South African Film and Television industry. This latest update was announced during MIP Africa’s panel session on “See what’s next on Netflix”. This announcement has brought back that anxiety into the minds of lovers of South African Series for they cannot wait for the release of these series’ renewals.
The series to be renewed are:
BLOOD AND WATER (SEASON 4)
To those fans of this series, be prepared season 4 is on the way and it is going to be hot. This series is written and directed by Nosipho Dumisa and Gambit Films. A teen crime drama series which talks about a 16-year-old young girl Puleng Khumalo, who uses her smart brain and enter a school where her suspected sister is and she tries investigating to prove that the young girl she suspects as her sister is her blood and lots of things unveil themselves as she investigates. This series will be returning on screen by the first quarter of 2024 which will feature Ama Qamata, Khosi Ngema and Gail Mabalane as main characters and other actors and actresses.
SAVAGE BEAUTY (SEASON 2)
This Bhengu Family’s drama will return for its second seacon this 2024. Created by Lebogang Mogashoa, the first season revolved around Zinhle’s mission to avenge the Bhengu family known for their beauty empire. Let’s see what the second season has in stock for us this coming 2024.
YOUNG, FAMOUS AND AFRICAN (SEASON 3)
This reality series follows a crew of famed, affluent stars as they work and play, flirt and feud in Johannesburg, South Africa. This all-African reality series includes actor Khanyi Mbau, musician Diamond Platnumz and rappers Nadia Nakai. This third season will return with much more fun, flirting and drama. We can expect to see cast from across South Africa, Uganda, Nigeria, Ghana and Tazania.
With the renewals of these series, Netflix will also welcome two new South African series. Which are:
MISEDUCATION
This series will debut on September 15th 2023. The young adult series will tell the story of Buntu Petse a first-year varsity (university) students who finds herself in a dilemma because of her mother’s trail of corrupt dealings.
YOH’ CHRISTMAS
Yoh’ Christmas is produced by Johnny Barbuzano, Tiffany Barbuzano and Morishe Matlejoane. It is expected to be a holiday series drama and will launch later this year.
The new Netflix multi-deal also includes literature adaptations and three feature films;
KANDASAMYS: THE BABY
Written and directed by Jayan Moodley, Kandasamys will premiere on October 20, 2023. The movie was shot in South Africa and Mauritius, but no detail as regards the synopsis has been revealed.
HEART OF THE HUNTER
Heart of the Hunter will tell the story of Deon Meyer’s spy-thriller novel. Directed by Mandla Dube, it will debut in the first quarter of 2024.
SOWETO LOVE STORY
Soweto Love Story is a feature-length rom-com set in Johannesburg and will be released in the first quarter of 2024.
Netflix really decided to invest and bring up lots of projects in Africa this year. Await the future has for Africa.
