DOUALA : TEACHER ABUSED TO DEATH BY SPOUSE
Another death hits the streets of Douala once more. In the neighbourhood of Ndogpassi a quarter in Douala, Littoral, Cameroon, a teacher was reported dead due to violence perpetrated on her by her husband.
According to reports, the teacher in question goes by the name Mrs. Yangwo, and she is an English Teacher in a secondary school there in Douala. She became the tragic victim of an extreme at of violence. A witness recounts the story of what led to her death, “She was in the hospital with her child and had to be absent for a few minutes. Her husband, mad with rage, got angry because she abandoned the child and hit her until her spleen burst. When she was taken to the emergency room, she was already in a coma, and there was no medical tube to intubate her. The acidic contents that accumulated in her lungs caused her death.
This tragedy underscores the urgent need for concerted action to put an end to epidemic domestic violence. Society should come together and urge the authorities to implement strict measures against aggressors regardless of their social status.
Something should be done to give women that confidence that they are safe in their homes and their spouses cannot molest them anyhow.
