Genevieve Nnaji is a Veteran Nollywood actress, Producer and Director. She was born on May 3rd 1979. The said actress won the Africa Movie Academy Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role in 2005, making her the first actress to win the award. In 2011, she was honoured as a member of the Order of the Federal Republic by the Nigerian Government due to her contributions to Nollywood. She began her acting career at the age of 8 in a popular tv soap opera entitled “Ripples”. By the age of 19, she officially entered in the Nollywood industry through the movie “Most Wanted”. She has starred in over 200 Nollywood movies.

After the actress directed and acted in the movie “Lion Heart”, a 2018 movie she decided to stop acting and engage wholeheartedly in movie directing and production but after that she disappeared.

Five years later, Genevieve Nnaji bounced back on her decision and is set to bounce back behind the camera again. Her comeback is through an adaptation of the applauded book “I Do Not Come To You By Chance by Adaobi Tricia Nwaubani. In 2010, the book won the Commonwealth Writers Prize for the Best First Book (Africa) and the 2010 Betty Trask First Book Award. It was declared by the Washington Post as one of the Best Books of the Year. The movie explains the story of a young man who must do everything to ensure his family doesn’t go through hunger. He will go through different lengths to protect his family by scamming. The movie “I Do Not Come To You By Chance” focuses mainly on Kingsley Ibe who is seen to be novel’s protagonist, graduates from the university and discovers the realities of life and visits his uncle Cash Daddy, to know more about Email Scamming. Genevieve Nnaji is said to be the Executive Producer of this movie.

The movie is to premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) as part of this year’s (2023) Centrepiece (previously Contemporary World Cinema) program.

With all anticipation, the audience awaits another wonderful ‘Work of Art’ by Genevieve Nnaji after her last movie “Lion Heart”.
