Cameroon has recently taken delivery of a brand new factory that will enable it to process wheat locally. The factory was built by the Turkish group Imas, which specializes in the construction of industrial machinery.

The announcement of the delivery of this brand new factory was recently  made by Imas in Douala . But the factory has been delivered since December 2023 to Cameroon’s World Food Industry, a producer of wheat flour that supplies a network of supermarkets and bakeries in the country.

According to reports, the new factory is capable of processing 160 tonnes of wheat a day into flour. According to the company, the factory produces two types of flour that supply local supermarkets and bakery chains affiliated to World Food Industry in more than 40 communities across the country.

“The project is being carried out on a turnkey basis. The entire factory process can be managed centrally by an automation system, from wheat reception to flour packaging. This technology even allows Imas’ after-sales team to connect to the factory remotely at any time, for remote assistance services, including technical support, troubleshooting and verification”, explains Turkish manufacturer Imas, which in 2023 will become Turkey’s leading exporter in the cereal milling and animal feed machinery categories, according to the Turkish Exporters’ Assembly.

This is World Food Industry’s 2nd mill after the one delivered in 2021 to Yaoundé, the capital of Cameroon, with the same wheat crushing capacity. The amount of the investment was not specified, nor was the number of jobs created by the Cameroonian miller’s new production unit.

In Cameroon, wheat is the second most imported cereal after rice. In 2022, Cameroon imported 920,400 tonnes, according to figures from the National Statistics Institute (NSI).
