Florence Kasumba is a talented Ugandan born German actress known for her notable performances in film, television, and theatre. she has made a significant impact in the entertainment industry with her acting skills and captivating presence on screen. Her passion for acting blossomed at a young age, and she pursued her dreams by attending the Otto-Falkenberg-Schule, a renowned drama school in Munich. She honed her acting abilities and gained a solid foundation in theatre during her time there.

While she was still in college, she landed her first professional film role, Silke, in the Dutch motion picture hit “Ik Ook Van Jou” (I Love You Too). After completing her education, Kasumba began her acting career in the German theatre scene. She appeared in various stage productions, showcasing her versatility and talent such as; “Chicago”, “Cats”, “West Side Story”, “Evita” and “Beauty and the Beast”. Her performances were highly acclaimed, and she quickly gained recognition for her exceptional acting abilities.

After a while of theatre acting in Germany, she travelled to New York City and was cast in a title role in Germany’s premiere production of Elton John’s International hit musical “Aida”. She also got a role in Germany’s premiere cast of “Mamma Mia”

In 2016, Florence Kasumba gained significant attention for her portrayal of the character Ayo in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) film “Captain America: Civil War”, Ayo, a member of the Dora Milaje—an elite group of female warriors from Wakanda—captured the audience’s imagination with her fierce and commanding presence. Her performance garnered praise from fans and critics alike, leading to her reprisal of the role in subsequent MCU films such as “Black Panther” (2018), “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” (2022), “Avengers: Infinity War” (2018), and “Avengers: Endgame” (2019). She as well featured in the series and many more of Marvel productions.

She has featured in other movies like; “Wonder Woman” (2017), “How Men Talk About Women” (2016), “Mute” (2018), “The Lion King” (2019), and much more.

Kasumba’s talents have not been limited to the big screen. She has also made appearances in popular television shows, including “Tatort”, a long-running German crime drama series, “Emerald City” a fantasy series inspired by the “Wizard of Oz”, “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier”, she also features in a recent Disney+ series called “Kizazi Moto: Generation Fire” and has acted as well in many other series.

Beyond her work in film and television, Kasumba has continued to expand her career in theatre, participating in various stage productions in Germany and internationally. She has collaborated with renowned theatre directors and has demonstrated her ability to bring complex characters to life with depth and authenticity.

Due to her work of art, she was nominated for the Black Entertainment Fil Fashion Television & Arts Award for International Rising Star in 2016, against Lupita Nyong’o, John Boyega and Lisa Awuku, she has been nominated in several other awards.

Kasumba was born on October 26, 1976, in Kampala, Uganda. her family relocated to Essen, Germany, when she was a child, and she grew up there, and attended elementary school and high school there. She is a trilingual actress knowing German, English and Dutch and it helps here in her career. She presently resides in Berlin, Germany.
