An attempted kidnap took place on New Year’s Day, 1 January 2024, in which three children were involved and they were identified as; Fokoue Confort Blessing (6 years old), Awungacha Angel Tracy (12 years old) and Fokoue Jude Sneijder (14 years old), fortunately they were lucky enough to escape their kidnapper.

According to information from sources, the three kids were on their way to their grandmother’s house in the Olembé district of Yaoundé to wish her a happy new year.

“It was around 1pm that Kwinta Fokoué, the mother of this family living in the Akak neighbourhood by Nkozoa, kept the children in a taxi for the Olembé neighbourhood. There was another family in the same vehicle, as well as the driver. The children sat in front. The 12-year-old girl was closer to the driver and the 14-year-old boy was carrying the 6-year-old girl. Once at their destination, the children asked to get out, but the driver pretended not to understand”, reports the media, based on the testimony of Awungacha Angel Tracy (12 years old).

“The man behind us with his children asked the driver why he wasn’t dropping us. He asked him not to interfere in anything that could harm him. Then he added that he would drop him off first and come back that way to drop us off”, recounts the little girl.

“Once the other passengers had got off, the driver took another route, in the direction of the Olembe stadium, but a little further away. He arrived in a small village called Nkol Mbong. The frightened children started shouting, demanding to get off. But the driver threateningly takes out a screwdriver and plants it into the boy’s forehead, then throws him out of the car. The young boy fell, taking his 6-year-old sister with him. He quickly got to his feet and shouted for help. The local residents got out and chased the vehicle. The 12-year-old girl who had remained in the car managed to escape”, recounts our source.

“I was able to open the door and jump out”, said young Awungacha Angel Tracy. It was the fall that left her with serious injuries, in which she broke both her legs and also injured her head and arm.

However, the taxi driver managed to escape and the children were picked up by local residents who took them immediately to the village health centre. After being observed by the doctors, they were transferred to the General Hospital, where they were immediately treated.

Of the three children, the situation of 12-year-old Awungacha Angel Tracy was the most critical. She was taken to Yaoundé General Hospital, where she regained consciousness and remained under observation. The situation is different for the other two children, who returned home on Wednesday 3rd, January 2024 morning, accompanied by their father.

This case is a pertinent situation in which parents need to look into and be really careful with their kids better you go drop your kids at their destination than expose them to such risk. The world today is evil.
